I'm getting error 5555 when I try to download from iTunes. I wasn't able to log into dotmac most of last week. There are no matching results on Apple's site. Google brings up others wondering what it means, but no one offering answers. Does anyone know what that is?
I can only tell you that I'm not having any trouble downloading from
iTunes or logging into my .Mac pages either directly or from other
computers.
I have no idea what error 5555 means, but I will say that random
internet flakiness of the sort you're describing can often be traced to
a change in firewall setup. Have you recently bought a router, or
turned on the built-in OS X firewall by chance?
Today iTunes worked just fine. I was able to download a song, without a hitch. I did not do anything to fix it. It just worked (after trying probably three times over a course of ten days).
One more thing that make me think it was possibly a dotMac problem (some of us on this list were having little problems while others weren't) is that I am now able to download my dotMac e-mail again. It wouldn't accept my password, and in fact at one point didn't even recognize my user name. I never got a reply from either of my e-mails to Apple, but everything is working now. And as I said earlier, I didn't do anything to fix it that I'm aware of. Seems to have started Sunday before last, and both iTunes and dotMac e-mail are working as to be expected today. Just thought I'd pass that on FYI.
