I have found that whenever I encode a CD to AAC which has
some sort of defect (I borrow a few CDs from my library every
so often and they're not treated too nicely) iTunes just stalls
at that place and can't complete the encoding.
Fair enough but when I try to cancel, iTunes just spins the
beach ball of death and I have to force quit.

Any suggestions ?

Stop stealing music?

Mind you don't fall when you get off that high horse...
