I believe for computer uses there are 1024 Kilobytes in a Megabyte. I am not sure why it is not 1000, like it is for everything else.Computers are on the base 8 counting method in other words multiples of 8. 8 x 128 = 1024
Because of the binary system.
Decimal : 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024
each time you carry, you double... sort of but not quite.
Its very hard to explain without drawing tables on scraps of paper and listing numbers, and its hard to understand unless you have an interest in advanced electronics/microprocessor sytsems, trust me on that, its because of the fundamental way computers operate...or..."coz it is." ;)
