The Canopus ADV-100 is probably the *best* converter you can find. I recommend it highly. From: Debra Platt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Does anyone have any recommendations for what I would need to get analog
video converted to digital and then onto dvd?
I was looking on ebay and came across a Canopus ADVC-100. The specs say it's
Mac compatable and can be used with iMovie.
Does anyone have any experience with this or similar, and what else would I
need?
I have used others -- notably the Hollywood "Dazzle" -- and been much less impressed. It works -- barely -- but the Canopus is pure gold by comparison.
You connect your Canopus as a bridge between your VCR and your Mac running iMovie. Start the VCR, hit the capture button on iMovie and have LOTS of hard drive space available (as in MANY GIGS -- digital video makes BIG files!).
Edit the footage in iMovie. David Pogue's IMOVIE: THE MISSING MANUAL is a *great* book on this subject.
Looking at the specs for your machine, however, I'm not sure this is going to be as easy as it would be on a modern Mac running OS X. You'll be running a much more primitive version of iMovie, and I don't think iDVD was ever available for OS 9, was it? If not, then you'll need a DVD burner (which I would assume you must already have) and Toast in order to make a DVD.
I would STRONGLY recommend upgrading to a faster, more modern Mac with OS X before attempting anything beyond the basic levels.
