There is an auto-play feature in QuickTime 2.0 and later that can open a document or 
application from the root directory of a CD (specified by the CD's author) when the 
disc is inserted.

You can disable this feature in the QuickTime preferences, and many people do, because 
there are viruses that take advantage of this feature.

The only Mac virus that I have ever seen "in the wild" was a CD autostart virus, on a 
Zip disc that my school's newspaper got back from the print shop.

I seem to remember that one of the big Mac magazines sent out a cover CD infected with 
an autostart virus.  Whoops!
