Theoretically USB 1.1 should be fast enough to play a DVD video.

1x DVD =3D 1,250 KBps =3D 10,000 Kbps =3D 9.8 Mbps.

Now if my memory serves me right then USB 1.1 is 11MBps.

No. You are confusing MB/sec and Mb/sec. Not the same thing.

USB 1.1 has a maximum *theoretical* top speed of 12 megaBITS/sec, which although a bit over the 9.8Mb/sec your math shows a DVD requires, is not sustainable under USB. That's why nothing associated with DVDs uses USB 1.1 output/input.

   5. The important files/folders to replace are:
      -AppleAltiVecDVDDriver.bundle

Not needed for a non-G4/G5.

-ATIRadeon8500DVDDriver (if graphics card is installed)
-ATIRadeon9700DVDDriver (if graphics card is installed)
      -ATIRadeonDVDDriver.bundle

Not applicable to G3 iMacs, since none of them have Radeons.

I would however strongly recommend switching to Firewire.

Yep.
