Sounds like you may have a defective keyboard. Try using another
keyboard that has a power button on it, preferably one like yours.

Well that will be like turning the problem upside down.
The keyboard' power button works perfectly WHEN the 4 port hub is NOT THERE.
Say with the printer connected on top or bottom USB port with the 
keyboard connected on the free top or bottom USB port, power button 
works OK.
Anyhow I will try finding another keyboard for testing...

Hmm, in that case, perhaps the hub is drawing too much power from the 
USB bus. I forget, does the hub have its own power supply? Have you 
tried a different, powered hub?
