Don't know about the crashes, but I've found the list of matching results that tries to drop down from the browser bar so slow it interferes with typing a url. I turn it off in Edit Menu, Preferences, Navigator, Smart Browsing, Location Bar Autocomplete, Advanced, Show List of Matching Results.
