Yes, good idea, and if you find that you have file directory problems that First Aid can't fix, you'll need to run DiskWarrior or TechTool.

Not a good idea to repair permissions from the OS on the install CD. With each OS update, the permissions table changes. Best to repair permissions from the updated Disk Utility on your boot drive.


And Ryan, you should create a test user and see if that user has the same shutdown/restart/logout/ problem. That will help narrow the search for the cause of the problem.
