I noticed in my /Library directory that there is a directory called Tomcat, I don't recall installing anything with this name, so I come to you the imac list, asking what this is, and if i need it?

Tomcat is a java server.

As for how you got it, I'd say you may have installed the Developer Tools CD. Or perhaps you are serving some information to either the web or other machines on your network, and this is part of that software.

Do you need it? I have no idea what you do with your computer, so I couldn't say. Should you delete it? Probably not. Indeed, you should approach everything in your /Library folder (as opposed to your ~/Library folder) as "do not delete unless you are absolutely certain it should be deleted."
