I recently tried to open some long-archived TIFF and JPEG images that I had stored or CD-R as data.
Some of the images opened easily, but most did not. I used a file utility to look at the file and it appears that the file/creator type has been lost.
Is there any way to restore the creator type for these files, or are they lost forever?
If the CD-R's desktop database is damaged, it's damaged. There's no way to override the existing file system.
Copy the files to your HD. Fix the type and creator fields. Write a new CD.
I recommend a utility like File Buddy to do the fixing.
