No go. I'm at the end of my limited expertise. Does anyone know where I might send the computer to find out what the problem might be and if it is worth fixing?

Open it up and disconnect the HD then make sure the CD-ROM and motherboard connections are good. Then try booting from CD-ROM. It that works then reconnect the HD and try again.
