Hi, Listers!

Just got an iMac 266 MHz. It has only 32 Mb of RAM so I thought that I would put OS 8.6 on it, and get more RAM later. This will be a present for a friend that needs a computer.

(As an aside, I thought that memory for the PB Pismo would fit, but they don't. I have some old PB Wallstreet RAM somewhere, just thinking it may fit?)

Well, the iMac doesn't start, it shows a small folder icon with the smiling "Picasso" face. Then it goes black, then white, then it shows the blinking question mark within a diskette.
The guy who sold it to me, specified that there was no OS loaded.
But when I put the OS 8.6 CD and start, pushing "C" all the way, the CD-ROM Drive just blinks, then spins, then spits out the CD.
I tried every bootable CD that I have, from OS 8 to OS 9.2.2, and Norton Utilities, and one HD formatting program that is bootable, I don't remember the name, with the same results. The only one that gave me some feedback was the "iMac Hardware Test", it starts loading, stops, then a small window appears that says "This hardware is not covered in this CD" or something like that, with two buttons: Shut Down and Restart. So maybe the CD-ROM Drive it is working.

I hope that some of you who had more experience with the iMacs (I'm more of a PowerBook man), can help me start this thing, as it will be a gift this Chritsmas for a dear friend.

TIA and best regards.
