There's a lot of discussion about this fan noise on the web.

Just a data point in this discussion -- I run a small squad of G5 17" 1.6GHz iMacs at work, all of which are running 10.3.7, and not one of them makes the slightest noise whatsoever. I mean, yes these things have fans, but I have to press my ears up against the machine to hear them -- I had to deliberately load mine up with a difficult video encoding conversion before I could audibly hear the fan(s) from more than right up against it.

The fans in the iMac G5 are SO quiet that in a room filled with six of the machines, the ONLY fan we can hear is the one coming from the one PC laptop in the room.

IOW, I don't think it's 10.3.7 per se, but I'm at a loss to explain why going back to 10.3.5 helps some people.
