Any recommendations?

Good question!

After years of trying out almost everything under the sun, I've settled on two tools for this:

1. Unison -- probably the best all-around Usenet tool, it's main strength is in gathering and downloading files from the usenet groups (my primary interests are music videos and "wallpaper" along with travel photography). It's also a perfectly good "reader" client for those who use Usenet mainly as it was intended -- to read discussions!). It costs $25 and is worth every penny.

2. MT-Newswatcher -- I've tried the rest but keep coming back to the best. If your main interest in Usenet is discussion groups, this one is my favourite. Yes, I know about MacSOUP and Hogwasher and Thoth and many others, but this one really can't be beat, particularly for the price (free).
