Does anybody know how to force a cd drive to cough up a cd when the Mac nt boot from hard disc? Back in the old days with my Mac SE, you could hold down the mouse button during startup, and thus force the SE to cough up a floppy disc. Is there a similar thing to make an iMac cough up a cd?
Just in case you have recently removed and replaced your iMac housing, it is possible that the tabs on the housing around the CD drive are not inserted properly. This causes a distortion in the case and may prevent the CD from ejecting. This has happened to me recently and I was able to repair it with minor amount of effort. It's just a pain in the behind.
