On second thoughts, just rocking it upside down over the bed should get most of the dirt out. No need to shake.

Kathy,
I recommend that you not use canned air, unless you can dismantle it first, and do each piece individually. Unless you open your iMac, canned air would just break the soil up and mean that every component got covered in some.
Can you shake it out? Do it over a bed, so if it does 'drop' should not hurt it. Put a drop cloth on the bed.
Its heavy, so have somebody (or bodies) strong to do it for you. Hold it just over the bed, not high.
Or have somebody pull it apart and vacuum it.

The cat is in the doghouse, so to speak. She decided to nap in the potted
plant on top of the bookcase. Upon exiting said perch, she knocked the
ceramic pot off the top of the bookcase where it crashed on top of the iMac,
dumping dirt (fairly dry as the plant hadn't been watered lately)
everywhere... floor, shelves, desk, chair... and the innards of Madame
Blueberry.
How do I go about cleaning out the iMac without doing any damage?
