I've got an iMac DV SE 400mhz with stock DVD and 13g HD.
I put in new battery, and 768 of memory (matched Kingston 256 and 512 gotten off of lem.com list) and it is purring with 10.3.8! Went from 9.2.2 to 10.3.8. Be sure firmware is up to date.
The caveat is: nothing microsoft is now on this Mac. Using Safari & Firefox, as browsers. Mail is strictly mac. Downloaded a great little utility for maintenance: macaroni (check versiontracker or macaroni.com) After installing Panther, I cleaned out old apps and prefs in classic and got rid of all AOL & Microsoft.
It is for simple use: Photoshop, Appleworks, selling on eBay, blogs, iTunes, etc. I have everything open and never crash, ever. Streaming video is great but I do have DSL service, too.
