I want to upgrade my iMac 350 slot loader to OS-X and figure to need a larger
hard disc than the current 6GB. I would like to install a 80G Maxtor DiamondMax
Plus 9 (because I have a friend who bought one that he ended up not using and
now it is mine). BUT this Maxtor runs at 7200 rpm and I have heard that might
be too fast for fanless iMacs?

What does anybody know about this issue?

YES, I could play it safe and buy a 5400 rpm hard disc, but I have this disc,
it is brand spanking new, and 7200 rpm discs are faster, which should help with
OS-X.

So, is 7200 rpm really too hot for an old iMac? Can anybody tell me?
