My friends have seen the light! They have ordered a Mini!
Now they will need some sort of book to guide them in the transition
from the darkside, all suggestions are welcome.

Well, let me ask you this: are your friends PC-savvy or PC-idiots (like most PC users)?

This makes a big difference in what I'd suggest. If they're PC-idiots, there's no book that will really help them because ALL the books assume you understand PCs/Windows (a fundamental mistake, IMHO -- I'd say easily 75% of regular Windows users don't have the faintest idea what they are really doing, any more than most of us really understand how our car's engine works).

So, if they're neophytes (even after years of working with PCs), I'd say just let them play with it and they'll pick it up quick enough (though you should probably be "on call" for a week or so to help them avoid frustration).

If they're PC "experts," then I guess I'd suggest OS X For Dummies by Pogue as a good resource.

 They have never used a
Mac and one of them is entrenched in using Excel for work projects.

Then I would *strongly* suggest they buy a copy of MS Office for Mac. Don't try to throw them one of the cheap substitutes -- Appleworks, OpenOffice et al. Those products might be similar in functionality but they are different enough to throw MS users off their game. Excel is *key* to making that person feel comfortable on the Mac so I think they really need REAL Excel. The good news is that they can "sidegrade" to MS for Mac for just the price of a "regular" upgrade -- their old Windows Office registration key will work!
