I bought yet another "dead" iMac 400DV where OS X had been installed without the firmware being updated first.
Simple I thought, just update the firmware and off we go, however, after having done everything as per description and rebooted with the long beep (or is it a "dooong") the iMac ran through the complete firmware update and after it had completed it just stopped.
I rebooted with a very bright screen that then died.
I went through the Cuda switch and all, only to read that I shouldn't have done this (yet) and maybe my only solution is:

but before I do this I thought I'd see if anyone has any other ideas or thoughts.
Basically, the iMac switches on with a very bright screen for a few seconds and then the screen switches off, and finally the iMac seemingly goes to sleep (but the power button is still lit up).
Connecting an external monitor provides a grey screen, but nothing else.
I have removed memory, renewed battery, pressed Cuda etc.
