Do you have an IR port by any chance?

I had an old pizza box performa that was switched on and off by my Sony
TV remote; they were the same frequency -- but that's much older
equipment and a normal fluorescent is closer to UV than IR.

The easy answer is don't use the mac and the closet light at the same
time...  also don't run with scissors :o)
