I then loaded up the firmware update ran it and then realized that the next step was to shutdown, wondering if it would startup again. Oh well, nothing to do but try it. It worked, the firmware update happened and it's working very nicely now.
That is a solution but don't hit it more than once. Everything I have read states that it will fry your Mac. I haven't experienced this myself but the articles seemed valid.
