When I put in the new HD, will I have to reinstall the firmware update for the iMac, or will it still be on the iMac, despite the new HD?
Thanks for the answers, looking forward to this upgrade!

The firmware update is applied to the ROM chip on the logic board, and thus is permanent. Once installed, you do not have to do it again, unless there is a new update issued by Apple. In other words, the iMac firmware update is not part of the software installed on the hard drive, nor is it part of the hard drive's own firmware.
