OSX will recognize and play DVD's from external drives.
If you don't have an internal DVD player, the installer disc will skip that
portion of the basic OSX install. You can extract just that application by
downloading Pacifist, which allows you to get into the package contents. It
works similarly to Tome Viewer in OS9 if that's familiar.
