It looks intriguing but it doesn't yet support binaries. Alas, my
beloved Thoth is no longer being developed and I just don't like many
of the alternatives.

I'm coming in very late on this conversation, but wanted to mention the two programs I've been happy with over the years for Usenet reading/downloading/posting:

1. MT-Newswatcher -- I used this up until Unison came out, for many many years. In conjunction with a small program that automatically decoded binaries, it worked perfectly for me and I was very happy with it once I learned it's ins and outs.

2. Unison -- $25 from Panic, one of the best investments in shareware I've ever made. A totally different, graphical approach to Usenet, this one is for people like me who download files from Usenet (in my case, mostly music videos). Check it out at www.panic.com.
