--- chrWhen you try switching the computer on, does
the power light turn orange, and then shut itself off
entirely? If so it sounds like it could be a dead
flyback transformer. A dead flyback can cause the
crackling and arcing effect on the screen.

If the computer tries to turn on and shuts itself off
again, that is because the flyback is preventing an
electrical supply to the monitor. The rest of the iMac
is fine. If you were to plug in an external monitor,
the iMac would power up ok, if you were to replace the
flyback transformer, the iMac would start up ok from
its built-in monitor as I think that is not damaged as
a result of this crackling.

That's of course if this is the issue with your
computer. I have a Bondi too, and though it is not
suffering the same fate as yours, it is going that
way, as occasionally the screen ticks when the
computer has been on for an hour or so. Sometimes it
can go many hours without the ticking screen, but I
think the initial symptoms are there.
