Hello to all, I am new here, I am hoping that some of you can help with my horrible, horrible Iomega problems. The long and short of it -
That is QUITE a tale of woe ya got there.
I have some good news and some bad news for you.
The good news is that there is a way to get that drive out of that machine and put into either a case or a space in your new machine so that all the data on it will be fine.
The bad news is that, after your experiences, there's really nothing to recommend other than get yourself a "new" machine (by "new" I mean slightly more recent -- at least enough to have Firewire).
I had nothing but GOOD experiences with the Iomega 650 USB burner (the original purple one that was designed from day one to run on USB 1.1), even though I personally can't STAND the company. But I'm not about to suggest you look for another one -- I don't think it's the burner so much as your system. I'm guessing it's pretty damaged (but perhaps still functional) by now.
If I were you, I'd look at getting a cheap refurbed eMac or at least a used or refurb G3 iMac that has FW ports. Then I'd get a cheap FW case (about $35-40), remove the HD from your old machine, put it in the FW case and move on with your life (and your data accessible).
