This is my first post cause I am now the very proud owner of my first iMac.
congratulations on your purchase :D
First quesiton: I had to have
Classic installed cause I don"'t have many X programs right now. My digital
camera is not recognized by iPhoto, it's not in the list (too old too). I
used to dl the pix from the SmartMedia Card by conencting a Zio adaptor to
the USB port of my Clamshell.
I had the same problem. I received an old digital camera from my uncle for my birthday, and he gave me a ZiO card reader to go with it. However, he had been using OS 9. After some (a lot) of searching, i found a driver for it.
http://www.ziocorp.com/support/drivers/archive/ZiO/SM/OS%20X/eUSBSM- OSX.sit
hope that helps :D
Anyway installed the proper extensions in Classic but Classic
doesn't start when the Zio is connected to the USB port of the keyboard.
I read in the manual book that Classic starts only when a Classic application runs.
Classic is just a way to run OS 9 apps. You cant do stuff like access the OS 9 desktop with Classic (which is what you would have needed to do to see the mounted card). Without the driver, you could have gone into System Preferences>Startup DIsk, and then chosen to boot from the OS 9 System Folder, and then you would have seen the mounted drive. But now you have a driver for OS X, so problem solved :D
Second question: I have a rebate to buy
Tiger. Will a G5 processor like the one in the iMac will run it smoothly?
you bet it will :D
i have a 1 GHz eMac, and it runs quite fine. In fact if anything, it runs faster. I've noticed from the time i login to the time i can open something from the dock is about 5-7 seconds. With Panther, it took around 15-20 :D
Last question: the CD/DVD reader doesn't read all CD's. Some don't mount at
all and I have to use the eject key. Most of my CD's are multisession and
were burned using Toast 4.2.
not sure about that problem. Could be the CD's are too scratched up?
Anyways, hope all that helps! Have fun with your new iMac!
