Still in it's infancy, but the new release is slightly more stable. If your using OS 9 please give it a try and please leave feedback at sourceforge site.

 MoreAmp 0.1.12
 by pmisteli - Wed, May 25th 2005 17:37 PDT

About: MoreAmp is an audio player that loads memory or a vdisk with many songs so the hard disk can spin down while playing them (saving batteries and reducing noise). It plays and makes ogg, flac, wav, aif, mp3, and aac files and plays audio CDs and wma, mp1, mp2, m2a, and m4a files. It has an easy-to use 31-band equalizer, variable pitch/tempo, repeat loop, and more.

What does Moreamp do that Audion doesn't?

I'll post something on the sourceforge site shortly.

FWIW, I'm unimpressed.

PowerMac 7300/180, 224MB RAM, 225MB Virtual
running OS 9.2.2 (with OS 9 Helper).

Moreamp wants a 32 MB memory partition; 4x what Audion and iTunes 2 require.

Visually, the interface looks very complicated. And the standard keyboard shortcuts (eg: cmd-Q) don't work.

Tried playing an mp3 (44 KHz, 192 Kbps).

Audion and iTunes begin play it within a second or two after the drop. Those two apps are insensative to context switching, etc. IOW, switching to another app, typing, and other activities work fine and do not interrupt the music in any way.

Moreamp took almost 30 seconds to make it's first peep after the drop. Then the whole mp3 played s l o w l y; sounded like m'thumb was on the record player. Even that much noise stopped when I clicked on the desktop (so Moreamp was no longer the foreground app). I finally figured out that the 2d green blobs in the upper left window are actually buttons. Turned off the equalizer. Now the mp3 plays fine - sounds good even. BUT... As soon as I switch to another app, it begins breaking up. I cannot type text in this Eudora window when the mp3 is playing! hum. My IRC connections and AIM just broke. Looks like Moreamp is a serious system pig.
