emusic.com claims to compensate the artists, and fits the other two. A
Google search I did before I signed up didn't turn up any allegations
of shadiness.
You seem to have not noticed the part where I mentioned "with the
blessing of the Big Five," meaning the consortium of major record
labels that sell 90%+ of all recorded music.
Still, emusic.com has merits of its own and may make a good choice
for certain types of people (ie those unconcerned that they've ever
heard of very few of the artists involved).
It should be noted that emusic.com is losing serious amounts of money
these days, recently let 20% of their staff go, and may not be able
to make it much longer. FWIW, I hope they survive.
