A Minolta Dimage IV can take even longer; it is not a complete function of the computer per se. The hardware for scanning takes time to do the two, three, or four passes (depending upon the machine) plus dust removal. It is not a fast process. I have some 50,000 colour slides, mostly on Kodachrome however am now shooting Fuji E-6 process theses days. Decided a long time ago that scanning as you're doing is OK IF needed said scan is for a purpose ie to illustrate an article or a column (I write for various railfan publications under various nom de plume); beyond that I simply don't. Have no need for the continuing problems of digital (and that's another whole topic from which to stay away). So as to speed, yes it is slow, however that is the name of the game.
