Hi all
I knew I should have left well enough alone, but I went ahead
anyway. Trying to fix my broken address book, I created a new
account. Fine and dandy. The address book worked.
Next I tried to bring all my stuff over by using a shared folder. The
stuff moved, but most of it had little red minus signs and a message
would pop up telling me I didn't have the authority.
Okay, I throw in the towel, and go back to my old account,
only to find every thing gone. Desktop settings, iPhoto library,
iMovie library, iTunes library - the lot.
I am choked to say the least. I stew for an hour or so and
then discover a disk image called "deleted users". In it is my
original account name. ( I don't remember deleting anything under.)
I drag everything back to my "home" account, and restart. All seems
well. The desktop comes up with the photo I used, the screensaver
photos are the ones I used.
BUT, I'm missing some things I'd saved to the desktop. Worse yet,
some recent family photos are not in the iPhoto library, including my
mother-in-laws 83rd birthday party.
Where did this data go? I didn't empty the trash throughout this
whole affair, so have to believe that it's on the hard drive
somewhere.
This is the second time I've been burnt, trying to transfer
data between two accounts in Tiger. I'm not impressed.
To add insult to injury, address book still doesn't work in my
original account.
