Hi!

I have just completed transfer of my 40GB hard drive with years of my data
and work on it from its old home in a now defunct Rev B iMac, to its new
home in a more sophisticated tangerine iMac 400 slot-loader, a model M5521,
which was the gift of a dear friend. In order to "tune" the operating
systems on the partitions of the hard drive I've just installed, and make
the OSs on its partitions conform to the specifications of the new, more
sophisticated home in which it's now residing, I believe I need to start up
the tangerine 400 slot-loader from each of the various Mac OS install disks
which originally made those installations.

I have a couple of problems here with this plan. Problem one is, I don't
know how to get that CD into the slot-loader. I've only used tray-loaders
until now. Do I just push it in before hitting the on/off button? Just after
I hit the on/off button? When should I press the "C" key on the keyboard in
this instance?

Here's problem two: once I start up, per the instructions relating to
problem one, above, on how to get a CD into the machine to start it up on
that CD in the first place, what is the right way to do an install of the
same OS versions which are already installed (OS X 10.2.8, OS 9.2.1-which
I'll also subsequently upgrade to 9.2.2, OS 9.1 and OS 8.6), over what's
already there, to have the installer make any changes to customize the
installation for the CPU which is now the new home of the hard drive I've
just installed? Also, if possible, I'd like to keep any changes,
preferences, drivers and extensions I'd already installed as part of the
other application software installations which I have on the hard drive. Do
you know how to do that? Or, if there are several strategies, which is the
best one, all things considered?

Can you tell me what to do, step-by-step, so I don't screw up and cause
myself further problems down the road from this juncture?

Thanks for your valuable input!

All the best,
stanton
