If you're running OS X, I've found 2 ways that work well from the
terminal
1) in terminal type sudo reboot...it then asks for your password and
after you enter it, it will reboot
2) in terminal type sudo -h shutdown now....it then asks for your
password and after you enter it, it will shutdown
These are sort of BRUTE FORCE methods but they work especially if you
have encountered a problem that is preventing you from
restarting......I found this when I was recently playing around with
a Blue & White G3 that I was upgrading.
