I do volunteer Mac tech support for a local school which has a bunch
of G3 AIOs and iMacs that are beginning to experience flyback

If you've got experience replacing these, please share your
experiences with me and other members of this list who may be having
similar problems.

Also, if you know of a good source for the correct G3 AIO & CRT G3
iMac flyback transformers, please post it (or them) to the list.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Jim,
While I have no experience with the first hand, I can offer some (hopefully) helpful links for the iMacs. But first, you need to decide if it is economical to replace the FBTs when you could get a whole new unit for about that much (locally, of course). So if you live in an area where there are a lot of used iMacs (check classifieds and eBay), it may be wiser to just swap out HDs instead of FBTs.

Secondly, you can disconnect the failed monitor and attach an external, but this probably isn't a preferred solution for a school environment.

Here are two links that I recommend when I post to Apple Support Discussions - hopefully you will find them useful too.

You can also search the Apple Discussions for some information:

Hope that helps :-)
