My G3/400 iMac's main hard drive has OS 9.2.2 and Tiger on it on
the same
partition - I mainly use OS 9.2.2.
<refraining from snarky comment>
So, a question... for routine maintenance of this "mixed-mode" hard
drive
should I:-
a) Forget Norton and run Apple's Disk First Aid under OS9?
b) Use the OSX Startup Disc and run Disk Utility under OSX?
c) Use another program like TechToolPro (OS9 or OSX?)
P.S: My external firewire disc only has OS9 on it so should THIS be
maintained under OS9 or OSX? Thanks.
In your situation, I would strongly suggest using ONLY DiskWarrior
for the OS 9 partitions. The OS X side can use it's own built-in
tools like Disk Utility (which can also repair OS 9's "permissions")
along with the freeware tool OnyX (there are alternatives to OnyX,
but that's what I happen to like), which is just a GUI for OS X's
built-in UNIXy tools.
NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES install Norton Utilities under OS X!!
Indeed, I would strongly suggest hunting down and removing ALL TRACES
of that wretched product from ALL your partitions.
If you prefer not to use DW, Tech Tool Pro (for OS 9 or OS X) is an
acceptable alternative.
Cheers
Chas
