From: Kev <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> What specifically causes the "Please Reboot...." screen (in multiple languages) to come onto my G3 iMac DV400 screen under OSX 10.4.2?
It doesn't like you hot-plugging your LaCie drive. You're getting what's called a "kernel panic," and it's supposed to be VERY rare.
There is clearly some incompatibility between your system and that LaCie. You might check to see if the drive case needs a firmware update. You might also check (by running "Repair Permissions" from Disk Utility) your system's stability.
(But it connects fine when I start up in 'safe" mode).
Sounds like some third-party startup item could be interfering with Firewire's proper functioning. Do you have any third party hardware like mice or tablets attached?
Until you work out what the problem is, here's a workaround (but be careful with this): Leave the drive plugged in at all times (from machine bootup), but turned off. When you need it, turn the drive on. IMPORTANT: when you are done with the drive, drag the disk (in the Finder) to the trash (eject) BEFORE you turn the drive off. If you turn the drive off and don't "eject" it first, you could lose data.
