Is possible to make a bootable cd from Roxio Toast Titanium version
6 (OS X
Jaguar)? I have tried twice and failed. The weird thing OS X's system
preferences "startup disk" panel lists it as bootable.
But when I restart either with the cd key down or not it shows up as a
blinking folder at the boot process.
To the best of my knowledge, Toast cannot make a bootable CD of Mac
OS X. There are invisible files and/or symlinks it does not copy
over. I'm not aware if it can copy over the DVD version (of Tiger) or
not, but I doubt it.
Use BootCD instead (http://www.bombich.com). It works beautifully to
make a bootable, customisable image you can burn to CD. Be aware, of
course, that booting from CD in Mac OS X is waaaaay slow. I'm talking
grind your own coffee, fire up the kettle and make yourself a cuppa
in a relaxed fashion before it'll be done booting. To be used only
when there's no other option.
... and speaking of that, a much better idea is to make a bootable
backup CLONE of your boot drive using Carbon Copy Cloner (same web
site) or SuperDuper. Once you've made the initial complete clone, the
"update" backups are fast and easy -- and you can reboot to the clone
in just seconds. Yes, an external FW drive is more expensive (up
front) than a CD -- but oh how you'll thank me if your boot drive
ever fails to boot.
