Matt,
First of all, the router will have to have more than one ethernet port if you want to have both the PC and the Mac online at the same time. The other option is to use an ethernet hub or switch in between the router and the two computers. (You may have to obtain some of the information from your broadband cable service provider. But some of them will tell you they do not support home networks. They will say that because they would rather sell you another IP address for the second computer.)

Then, if the router is set up to distribute DHCP addresses, you'll need to choose from the TCP/IP control panel (I'm trying to remember OS9 here) "Built-in Ethernet" in the "Connect Via" drop-down menu and choose "DHCP" in the drop-down menu that I think says "Configure". Check the PC's network settings for reference.

The router's address is probable something like 192.168.1.1 and the subnet mask may be 255.255.255.0 or 255.255.0.0

Here is an Apple support document that may help:

Cheers,
John

Hey listers:

I'm in the process of moving, and my Ruby iMac, running 9.2 (I know, I'm behind the times) and still using dial up here (ok, I'm REALLY behind the times). I am moving into a place that will have cable access, going through a router. One machine runs windows, and I need to know what I have to do to have my trusty iMac to connect through the router. Any advice will be appreciated.

Matt
