The power issues are almost certainly being caused by faulty power
supply or logic board. You have AppleCare and a backup of your data
-- get the machine in for servicing asap.
I=B9m trying to resolve this without Apple support as I converted
her from
Windoze to Macs and don=B9t want her bashing her Mac.
You'd be a LOT better off saying "Mom, Apple found a defect in this
model and they will fix it for free, so let's back up your data and
send it off for a few days so we don't have to deal with this any
more."
