I have migrated to OS X and have successfully installed the Palm Desktop program (involves logging on as Root),

Wondering why Root was involved? I have installed Palm Desktop on several Macs with X and never had to log on as Root. What version of Palm Desktop are you running?

but it won't work. I hit
the HotSync button, but the Palm and Mac fail to communicate. Is there someone out there who can tell me why this isn't working, or can send me all the files that the installer installs and tell me where to manually put them. I'm running OS X 10.2.8 on a Rev C iMac G3.

My hardware was a trifle different, I have a Handspring, but as I recall I was able to sync it using iSync with Palm Desktop (4.2.1 is what I have now, and I don't think I have updated it since it was on an iMac G3 with 10.3.9.) Can't recall details exactly, involved IIRC an extra file of some kind for iSync, whatever it was was freely available and I found out what to do via Google.
