I cant remember does the G4 have a mic input I seem to think not as
I used to use a Griffin iMic. You can plug the record deck straight
into the mic or iMic socket with suitable leads and obtain perfectly
acceptable results. Purists will be alarmed at this as you are
supposed to have a pre-amp to compensate for something or other
however lots of record decks have them built in. I got one for about
£20 from a Sony centre shop. You can pay a great deal more. You can
use the line out from the amplifier into the mic input but be sure to
start with all inputs and outputs turned down low and adjust levels
to suit.
As for software you probably already have CD spin doctor (comes
with Toast) or I have had great results from Audio Hijack (free demo)
recording time limited to 30 mins per session. I would think that
Quicktime with a pro serial would give you the option of audio
recording. Any high end audio program (Bias Peak) comes to mind, will
do what you want.
You can then use iTunes to convert to MP3, M4a if you should so wish.
