Slot loading G3 iMacs have an optical drive configuration that is certainly
thicker than any optical drive for any laptop I have ever seen. It's a
unique and custom configuration, just as the first tiBooks had a custom
config (only lots thinner). So what I have been driving at, is where to get
a superdrive like that that is not $150 (at MCE)? I can guarantee that no
stock config laptop drive will do the trick. If you tell me eBay, tell me
the make and model number please, because every auction I have ever seen is
for a standard laptop config that will NOT do the trick, as is, in a
slot-loading iMac G3. The other question then is are these slot loading
iMac G3 optical drives somehow mounted in a casing that will allow a
standard laptop optical drive to be transferred in, and if so, HOW, because
after just pulling one out it sure doesn't seem obvious as to how.
