Have you tried booting into Safe mode to see if you can rename files in the finder? This would help determine if the problem is related to third party extensions. How about trying a different user account? This will help determine if the problem is user specific. I found some details on the Apple discussion boards here that might help: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8770059 Looks like Stuffit AVR may be causing similar issues if you have it installed.
