I guess Apple figured out that since iTunes was their store portal, 
it didn't make sense offering two versions.  I know they started 
offering iTunes via Software Update quite a long time ago - late '04? 
But it was still technically part of iLife (perhaps a "free" part) 
until iLife '09.
