Al Poulin *********************************************** News [Office software] Tuesday 31st March 2009 NeoOffice puts a Mac twist on OpenOffice 9:21AM, Tuesday 31st March 2009 The NeoOffice project has released a new version of its eponymous productivity software suite. NeoOffice 3.0 comprises a set of office applications for word processing, drawing and creating spreadsheets, presentations and database. It is based on OpenOffice, released late last year, but has a strong emphasis on features that are specific to the Mac but absent from the cross-platform oriented Open Office. Those features include: native floating tools windows and access to menu items when no document is open, neither of which is provided by OpenOffice; a media browser for adding content such as photos and movies a from iLIfe applications; magnify and swipe trackpad gestures; image import from cameras and scanners; and support for Leopard’s grammar checker. The NeoOffice developers also claim significant speed improvements to the OpenOffice.org code. On the downside, one OpenOffice.org feature is missing from NeoOffice. The developers have not been able integrate Universal Access so if you need Universal Access support use OpenOffice.org, Microsoft Office, or Apple iWork. NeoOffice 3.0 is a free download.
