It seems that your difficulty is only incidental, and not relevant, to the fact that you happen to conduct your project on an iMac. I believe that you would have encountered the same situation with any other Mac. With respect to Weather Tracker, you are serving as a beta tester for an unfinished product, whose company is not responsive to your communications. Some suggest the download of a much more substantive user manual for an essentially identical product from the Radio Shack website. You did not identify the "serial/usb adapter" that you bought for the project. Such devices are known to be problematic under Mac OS X. I have had good experience with several old Keyspan adapters.
