On my iMac Graphite G3, I used an EyeTV USB unit - I got one with the EyeTV software (required) for $20 on eBay. They are kind of rare but they are out there. For some reason, over time they tend to "just stop working"; I don't know if something burns out or what since there are no moving parts inside, but I confirmed this after buying a second one, having a problem, and then hearing the same thing from another long-time EyeTV USB owner. So maybe just buy a bunch. :) I own the first generation FireWire EyeTV unit as well, but when plugging it into the iMac I get a message from the software "this requires a G4" - as far as I can tell there is no reason for it to "require" a G4 but that's what the software says.
