After trying the suggestions provided with no luck, i switched
install media. I found my imac boots fine with my Tiger dvd. What i
had been using is my nearly-new Jaguar install cd which lowendmac
says is fine for my machine. Apparently not. Specifically, I'm using
the 15-inch 1ghz imac with 512mb ram and original 80gb hd.
Now that i know i can at least get back to square one with Tiger, I
am intrigued why i cannot get the FreeBSD install to work. I have
previously deleted the Mac partitions with a Mac install cd. I boot
to the FreeBSD 7.2 cd, and for the partitioning scheme i select Auto.
It shows the partitions to be made, but when i start the install it
says "Error mounting... Operation Not Permitted." Any idea why it
would reject the partition scheme selected by its own auto defaults?
Should i select the manual partitioning instead? And what values
should be given for the various partitions?
Thanks again for any suggestions!
